out with the old, in with the new

Wow, such lovely responses already to my last post! I'm so glad people liked it! I feel this sort of design is more in the direction that I'd like to be heading.

But on that note, if I'm going to be printing even more new designs, I have to start relinquishing some of my old screens. I've got quite a collection gathering at the printers, and they've asked for some back. Bonsai Forest & Wild Geese, Poppies & Raindrops are the two screens I'm thinking of giving up.

So... the question is, should I do one last run of those old designs before discarding the screens? I thought the linen might help revitalize some of them, such as below:

one last go?

Honestly now. I can accept when it's time to move on ;)

Absolutely do another run before you give back the screens.....!
The linen changes the whole dynamic of the print; plus, it will give everyone a chance to get some of your older designs before they dissapear into the ether.....
People like me, for example!

I'd say go for one last run. The linen adds such a nice dimension and texture to your patterns. And, selfishly, then I could pick some up for my fabric hoard! :)

Raindrops on linen in that aqua colour are very tempting... i think the linen revamps it enough to be worth a goodbye run.

A final run is a good idea- I think the prints look even better on the linen than on the cotton- it makes them much more textural.. Also a final run really gives your prints a 'limited edition'/artisan feel to them (marketing anna. eek!)

Hello Lara - lurker, first time poster - Vanessa from Retro Age Vintage Fabrics here. I love your blog and visit it daily to see what you're up to with your wonderful designs - you are such a talented gal! Don't forget to pat yourself on the back every now and then :)

From a person who collects and also sells vintage fabric, I would say keep (buy outright) the screen your fabric design is on. You never know where your fabric designs will take you - around the globe, fame and fortune, etc etc!!...and these screens should stand as testimony to your great creativity and 'where you started'...

How many designers - furniture, textile, lighting etc - are so successful, yet regret not keeping their 'starters'?? Years down the track you may want to reprint your lovely designs again - and how wonderful would it be to do it again on the same screen???

I am a Florence Broadhurst fan - love her design style and creativity! But it took Signature Prints years to place her screens together in the right order to replicate her prints...and without their determination and the fact she kept her screens, we would never have been privy to her wonderful designs in the 21st century...how sad would that have been??

Just my two cents worth - but, yes, do another print run at least!!

Cheers and have a great day
Vanessa

yes! definitely do one last run. and i dont know how expensive it costs to do these printings, but wouldn't hurt to do a bit extra. to keep some for yourself and to allow more of us to get some! i always miss the good stuff. :)

I'm in the one more run camp too! I'm yet to buy any of your prints, and bonsai forest and wild geese are my favourites- as is linen, they can only strengthen each other!

The poppies look AMAZING in that colour on the linen.

Have you thought perhaps about doing some runs of something sometimes that use the full width of the fabric? I'd like to sew some clothing out of some of you fabric, but you can't really do that with the half-width stuff. Not sure if there's others out there that want full-width too, but I thought I'd speak up.

Oh, sad. You should for sure do another run. And linen is so yummy and tactile.
