Miss Havachat! A very unique children's book

You probably already know this but I often have heaps of different projects on the go at once (don't we all). But there's one in particular though that has been bubbling away in the background for some years now, and I've been keeping it secret, until now...

Miss Havachat!

For the last few years I've been working closely with author, Peter Barber, to create a childrens book for 3-6 year old girls. But not just any children's book! The book is customisable in lots of ways to suit your own little "Miss Havachat". Name, appearance, family, friends... all customisable through an online interface and delivered anywhere in the world.

The centerfold (it's station street in Fairfield!)

This book has been a long time in the making, mainly because the technology to connect variable image data to digital printing is so new. But finally we got there.

The book comes with gift wrap and a little card to match (and a free download of the Miss Havachat song).

Go check out the website at www.misshavachat.com and if you so please, order a book for a Miss Havachat you know and make them smile :) (my niece loved it and took it to school to show off to all her friends).

We launched the book during 'story time' at the Darebin library and it was a hit:

Colouring in sheets were handed out afterwards - look at her go!

Yay!

this looks great and very apt for my 4 year old. Today we were late for her ballet class because she had to have a chat to everyone she saw before the class. Her brother's school teacher, other mothers, people at the shop who we didn't even know, etc etc. I'm always saying to her, 'less talking, more walking'

I shall go and have a look. Congratulations.

What a fabulous idea,I love all your designs. Since I have a very small blog with few visitors...you may not be interested but I posted about your textile art today amongst other textile artists. Hope you enjoy.

I was very excited about this until...both of my children are adopted from Ethiopia. They have brown skin, (which is not a choice) and they were not grown in my tummy...
I want to give you some constructive criticism here. You are donating to an organization in Tanzania... I really would like to see more diversity options in books such as these!! Please!!!

Sorry, in my previous comment I should of said that brown skin was not a color choice option in the book...

Thanks so much for the constructive feedback Heather! I totally understand you're upset with this limitation and it was something we deliberated over for some time... unfortunately the complexity of making the skin changeable was above and beyond what we were capable of at this point - especially since it would only make sense for all the other family members to have the same skin colour (well in most circumstances I guess!).

We decided it's best to just get the book up anyway, despite this limitation, and then have a re-release with more features if we can afford it. We hope that a book that brings joy to some children, if not all, was better than no book at all :) ... I'm truly sorry for any offense caused by this.

No offense taken...just a wishful plea!!
