lamps and more lamps

So yeah, as I touched on yesterday, I went a little crazy over the weekend making lamps:

They are a bunch of birthday, housewarming and wedding presents that I've been putting off making for ages, for fear (and loathing) of the drive to Handworks in Prahran. It's totally irrational I know. I just dislike the drive along King Street and Kings Way, the parking difficulties and the general vibe of the area. But it's the ONLY place I've found that sell lampshade frames!

Apart from an excuse to showcase my fabric in a self indulgent manner... they're also an opportunity to practice taking nice photos.

I still have a long way to go, but it's a fun way to kill an hour or so.

Of course, if you want to try your hand making your own lampshades (either with a ready made frame or by recovering an old frame) there's this tute that I wrote up awhile ago :)

These lamps are so incredible! How I wish it was my housewarming / birthday / wedding being celebrated!

Well worth the troublesome drive, if I may say so & the photo's really are lovely, too.

These look great, I love it on the birch fabric as the linework really works well with the shape of the lamp.

I know what you mean about going places and avoiding them due to driving there. I always try and work out how I can use public transport rather than drive to a lot of places. I get worried I wont find a park.

I remember seeing some lamps covered with vintage kimono fabric on French Touche a while back and I wanted them sooo badly. Your lovely lamps have reignited the desire! Thanks for posting the link to your tutorial I can't wait to try this :)

I hate driving to Handworks too. The traffic over that side of town drives me crazy. But your lamps certainly make it worth the effort. How gorgeous!

It's looking good...and I wish I could 'kill' an hour...I need to find myself time ;)
Prahran/Windsor isn't that bad is it...we used to live around the corner from Handworks...I guess the parking is pretty bad, we used to walk, now I just avoid the place ;)

I love the retro look of your lampshades! Thanks for posting!
I've just completed 1 of 3 shades for a lamp refurb I'm working on.
Do you have any tips for making these? I read your how-to a few months back but I'm having problems keeping the seam down the back together and tight enough for the rings. What kind of glue do you use?

This is just what I am wanting to do. I read your tutorial, and did a search for Handworks, which yielded no email address to contact. I'm in the US so it's probably a long shot to get them anyway, but if you have contact info, I'd be so happy. I did a search online for similar, but I got absolutely nothing... :(

LOVE your blog and work by the way. Happy I stumbled upon you! Pure inspiration!

Absolutely gorgeous. It's on my list of things to make! If you have a Lincraft in Melbourne they might have lamp frames there.
