Good things

- Finding a copy of Frankie in the mailbox, with no recollection at all of having subscribed (!)

- Going to the beach for the weekend and playing in the shallows where the water is warm

- Talking to complete strangers on the telephone with surprising ease (I have never been much of a telephone person)

- Discovering a new favourite cheese - yum!!!

- Giveaways!!!

Fabric of all shapes and sizes (some misprinted bits but generally good), A/P gocco print on plain paper, gift labels and a letterpress card.

So go on - come out of the shadows so I can see you, and tell me you favourite colour combination (of anything) to go into the running :)

UPDATE - Okay at 159 comments (!!) entries are closed! I'm doing the random number generation right now :)

I have a collection of your prints from Moo - I really like the patridge in the pear tree - that is blue and green with a white background. I also like the pale blue grey background of hte bare tree with white balls.
I don't like the cards so much with the mission brown backgrounds,

I have a bit of a fixation with grey, I love grey and yellow, grey and aqua or any green, grey and black is always good, grey and red.
Grey and any other colour really!

Finding a surprise copy of Frankie in your letterbox would make any day a little sweeter :)

Orange, pink, yellow and green...have to include green after all the Sydney rain recently!

Favorite color combo...hmm...I love yellow, red, and blue so I'd say yellow and blue together and red and blue together. Ohh...this is trouble, I'm going to have to dig in my fabric stash and get sewing!

At the moment, it's red and orange together, which means I tend to leave the house wearing this combination and have to forceably remember to choose other colours. Next week though, I have a feeling it will be green and brown.

Well to stick with the french theme...I'd go lavender and 'old' green..just like the lavender plant colours...

OK, I'm de-lurking!!
I have so many favourites! Chinese Lacquer Red with French Blue or with Melon greens (let's face it - red with pretty much anything!); tangerine and clear pinks; acid greens with scarlet and black; lavender and chartreuse; scarlet and violet; apple green with crimson and white; chocolate brown and raspberry pink; icy blues, mint greens and dashes of tobacco brown.
I guess I like contrast, huh?

Love the fabrics! My favorite color combos? Yellow and Robin's egg blue...and robin's egg blue with a dark orange color. I like to see that same blue with bright pink and green as well.

I'm a huge fan of grey and hot colours, like lemon yellow and pillar box red. But I also like tonal pairings, like turquoise and teal.

Definitely red and aqua/light blue. Also a reddy colour and paler green.

i love yellow and grey. well, actually, grey with most colors can be nice....although not so much at the end of winter. red and aqua (that you already use!) are lovely for spring. I like pumpkin & sage too-- those are the colors in my living room where one wall is pumpkin-colored and when the lamp is on against that wall it looks like the sun is shining in there.

hi! i think you have a lovely sense of color.
right now i am really loving the combo of mustard yellow with medium gray + a little creamy off white accent.
also agree with above commenters, i am a fan of red + aquaish tones. they're bright and cheery.

I'm always a fan of green (though I'm particular about it - no forest green for me) with neutral colors such as grey's and browns.

That said, you can never gone wrong with the classic chocolate brown and turquoise, duck egg or baby blue.

I love color! I went through the stage of loving brown combinations--light aqua, a good lt. green, and the right pink. Although, in the moment, I am liking the basic primary and secondary colors: a good kelly green with a bright yellow..and if that is not enough, add a cherry red!

Hello Lara
I recently managed to purchase some of your moreish fabrics-I waited with baited breath for the alloted hour which was 10pm UK time on a Sunday night-my little girl in bed, kitchen tidied, watching the clock. I've been watching blogs for months and months but have been too shy to comment.
So I'm stepping out for the first time today! On Colour Combos..... I went to the Outer Hebrides a couple of years ago and
got obsessed by the Harris Tweed which I bought off little old guys in their sheds who'd been weaving away since they were young and I have to say that the olive green against heather purple is something that makes my mouth water again and again.
In Sweden last year the rich forest floor of lilac heathers and bright scarlet red berries against glaucous blue lichens had me snapping away with a frenzy. Finally chocolate with a dash of bright lilac is so luxurious, I saved up for some Joseph Frank Hawaii in brown from Svenskt Tenn just for the lilac moths fluttering over it. All rather Autumnal but it's pretty cold here right now.
I'm obviously loving your birch fabric and am making two photo album covers from the Swedish Holiday with it in the style of your loose journal cover. Best Wishes Catherine Beard UK
Look forward to more from your studio.

for me, i have always loved purple, since elementary school i'd say, so that's been a fave color for 1.5 decades! and now i have a thing for all things robins egg blue. it reminds me of the blue vases from old chinese art. and i must say that these two colors combined aren't too bad. purple and blue have traditionally been such royal colors, but i dont like things to be all dark, so robins egg blue takes the place of royal blue. hee hee.

I am reading about the life of pottery artist Clarice Cliff and in 1931 she was using fantastic colour combinations. "In the autumn of 1931, Clarice Cliff told the Bristol Times. 'I love mixing bold tints - rich oranges, reds, greens, blues and mauves,' she told Millicent Hardiman. I love that they're called Clarice and Millicent. This was from Lynn Knight's book "Clarice Cliff". I think nearly 80 years ago Miss Cliff was onto something.
And, yikes, I think I've let my "Frankie" subscription lapse. Ai yi yi.

Frankie is great, huh? i received a sub for my birthday last year and it has brought me immense pleasure seeing as i have had to stop buying magazines due to strict married-lady budgeting.

now, on colour combos: i am quite in love with brown/orange/cream at the moment, as that is the direction my lounge/living room is heading in. it is so autumn-y and cosy but can be freshened up with white or a spot of blue. i actually have a hankering to obtain one of your lamps (or make my own?) in one of your orange prints (if they ever happen again, hint hint).

Mustard (almost curry color) and brown, is also a lovely combination. Love, love pale blue and sage green (like the colors in your fabrics) which it has been a long time favorite. I'm a little fixated with blue and green at the moment. You know the whole "blue and green should never be seen" thing? I just love the fact that they are two colours that are kind of so wrong and so right when placed together. They enhance each other so well and contrast at the same time. They always make me think of water and weeds, trees and lakes.

Then there's red, of course. I have realised I have more pairs of red shoes than any "normal colour."

made in melbourne said...

I'm such a Melbourne cliche... I find I have to really 'try' to dress outside of a selection of black, black and black items. I'm not sooo bad when it comes to colour in other fabrics, but since moving to Perth I've had to redefine my idea of colour (for dressing and for everything else).
Perth has made me fall back in love with the darkest shades of blue and indigo that the sky turns in the early evening, but mostly it's opened my eyes up to the combination of bright white (it seems almost neon white if such a thing exists thanks to the bright light here) with sharp sea-green or yellow.

green and brown. a lovely warm chocolate brown, but not too dark, and a bright green - not lime green and not kelly - somewhere in between...

Aqua and chocolate brown is my fave.
Anything (!) and lime green.
And orange and purple has always been a fave of mine...a bit 70's but no-one seems to do it much, so that's fun :P

I really like dirty-muddy versions of these colours:

Red, black & grey
Linen-y, red, aqua
Greeny-grey and yellow

It's very, very hard to choose!

Right now since it's winter here I'm into warm colors - combinations of red, rust, and brown.

Getting a new copy of Frankie from the corner store yesterday made me happy, but having it magically turn up in your letterbox would be even better!
I had forgotten about Boursin cheese, we were totally addicted to it when we lived in the UK... it is awesome on toasted sourdough.
Favourite colour combinations:
Chocolate and orangey-red and pink
Grey and magenta and lilac

Love your fabrics & colours Lara. My fav combo is fire engine red & aqua (as any others do also!!) I renovated my kitchen last year in these colours & love them. As a redhead I also gravitate to any shade of green.

I have a new found thing for dark grey. It goes well with my brown boots, surprisingly.
But normally I'll go for purple and apple. Or bright orange and turquoise. Or red and white. Or Red and brown. Or green and brown. Or red and purple. Normally, I wear three colours, but you didn't ask for that.

Ocean-y colors..but greyed down. Soft aqua with a deeper blue/green. Throw in a champage color with it and I"m all over it.
