Stickers?

I got really inspired recently looking at the Print & Pattern blog - particularly the "Box of Labels" sets that she showcased a few weeks ago - such gorgeous stuff. So I decided to have a go making my own sticker labels:

Only problem is that looking back on my inspiration, they're probably a bit too similar to the Sukie ones. What do you think? I just really love that grungey effect they used on theirs - makes it look a bit less clean and stark and vector-ey. Same reason I like to put linen texture behind my other stuff :)

Hi there Lara,

I tried to find your email from my address book but I couldn't find it. So I comment will have to do.

First I love the fabric you have going on the sides of your blog. It's been a while since I've actually seen your blog as I use 'google reader' to read all my blog news.

Second. I think your stickers are quite your own. However I can see where the inspiration has come from

Third. I have been wanting to make my own stickers. I have looked online and in Japan at Tokyu Hands and Joyful Honda for sticker cutters and etc but I have not found anything. Only cutters for scrap booking. I don't suppose you can point me in the right direction...?...Thank you!

I think the stickers are very much your own, and though the sukie ones are a little similar, you can tell you've taken the design in your own direction..... don't worry about it!
They're cute - can I put my hand up for a christmas pressie from you? About 10 bolts of fabric would be fine, I think.....

heh heh

xxxxx

I like your stickers. Sure they are somewhat like the others, but hey, how much different can you make sticker shapes? Your designs are all your own.
I'd be a sticker customer of yours for sure. *S*

I love them, they are really gorgeous. I read print and pattern too and I did see the sukie ones last week, a couple of weeks ago(?) but yours seem completely unique and YOU to me.
Will you sell them on etsy?

Hi Lara,
I love your blog its very inspiring!
As to your stickers...I love'em! I can see a sort of similarity but I think they are very much your own...
Is there any way you could create a sort of linen filter to add the texture you desire?

Hi Lara,

My first thought was that they look very 'Lara', so don't worry. As others have said, I too can see where you got your inspiration. That's not a bad thing. I'm always surprised how your things have that special, recognizable 'Lara' thing in them. That's a good thing.

Every day I hope that my mail would arrive in Australia. I know it takes time, but I'm anxious to hear if you like what I sent you.

Right now I'm pretty distracted. Today there was a shooting at my old high school. At least seven has died. The whole country is shocked, but at the moment I'm just upset as it hasn't really sunk in yet.

Good things have happened too! My Etsy shop has started well and I really want to thank you for inspiration. Hugs!

I like them, and I think it's alright that you're using the 'worn' background for a couple of reasons. First, as you said, you like the look of 'less-pristine' which is evidenced in your fabric selections for your prints; so in essence it stems from your own ideas anyway. Second, you're using a different colour, so the overall feeling of the labels is different.

Also, I think offering up some batches for sale in your store would be a really good idea. :) *with any luck this time, I'd be able to get a set before they'd sell out. ;)

I love your stickers, and I think they look like your other designs (they look unique)! Similar to Sukie but not too similar. Great job!

Do you print onto sheets of labels? Or do you have a sticker machine?

yeah i saw those 'box of labels' sets on print & pattern & thought they looked cool! like everyone else has said, i think your stickers are very much keeping with your style, so i wouldn't worry about them being too similar to the sukie ones... they look really awesome :-) i'd love to see them in your shop!

The stickers are awesome Lara!

The only similarity I see is that they are both sticker labels. Your styling is very distinct and I want to buy your stickers now !!!

They are just beautiful.

as everyone else here has already mentioned time and time again, although we can all see where the inspiration comes from and where the similarities lie (circles, use of borders, animals, nature, etc.), at the end of it all we do know that the designs belong to you. there is something about them that we instantly recognize as "Lara-eqsue". it is at that point that one can reasonably and reassuredly believe that they did not copy anyone else's ideas. and i think you managed to avoid that. :) and yes, do sell them and do put my name for one if you do! i just cannot deal with the time difference. :)

Both your stickers and Sukie's are lovely but quite different. Keep them coming.

There is an inkjet sticker paper that is high gloss and photo quality. It is available on www.PressLabel.com.

Bright colors and fine detail look just like a photograph. It is the same as inkjet photo paper except this is a label.

Here is a link to the product page:
