A date with lace

As you may or may not have heard, over at Ink & Spindle Teegs has been dragging Bianca and I along to Lace Class. Okay so dragging probably isn't the right word. After I convinced her that the Citylink tunnel doesn't represent certain death it hasn't been so bad driving over to Ashburton on Monday nights and being all nannariffic.

Lara making lace
In class, working the bobbins...

Teegs & Lara making lace
Teegs and I in class

And then we even had homework to do...

making lace
Working on my ground stitches homework...

making lace
I know, that's a hellava lot of pins....

making lace
Et voila!

Okay so you're probably looking at this and thinking that lace making has the potential to drive you certifiably mad. But... surprisingly enough, it's actually quite enjoyable. It's quite a good distraction from all the racing thoughts in my head, it forces me to focus on something else.

So there. A post about something other than fabric! xx

I'm guessing it will be a while before we are buying your hand-made lace by the metre......it must take forever!

Oh. My. God. That looks so painful it makes my head hurt. I'm so, so sorry to all of the slave children doing this around the world. Ouch. :-) You are brave ladies!

Gorgeous.

I'm finding teeny tiny most satisfying at the moment.

That is definitely cool as! Is there a special thread or something you use? I can see them turned into those lovely delicate lace gloves, oh so Victorian! xo

What a cool class- reminds me I should branch out and learn something out of my comfort zone- yes, I imagine it would be relaxing, too.

Beautiful! And you get to play with those little woody spindly things (which I always think look so pretty in themselves)!

My mum has the bobbins at home, but it is ages she doesn´t use them.
I always had thought that it was very difficult...
Maybe could tell her to give me some monday evening classes?

Great job.

it looks wonderful - I've always been interested in learning. I don't think anyone teaches it here.

I was in barcelona the other week and all the regions lacemaking groups had a big meeting/possibly competition, The park in the centre of the Rambla del Raval was filled with long lines of trestle tables and hundreds of little old catalonian ladies making lace and checking out eachother's work.

I just saw this posting from you and laughed. You may be interested in my post from yesterday. I recently saw a woman working on an amazing lace piece and took a short movie.

my friend Robyn and I watched a lace maker working in Brugge, Belgium a while back. It boggled my mind, I tell you! I'm so impressed with you.

Hey seeing this post got me into making bobbin lace - I went out and brought books and a kit and everything.

Are you still going to classes? Have you made any more lace? Please update us!
