Experiments with clutches

Lately I've found it really hard to just 'stop' in the evenings. After juggling what feels like a million web, textile and graphic design projects during the day, come the evening and I just have to keep on going.

My recent focus has been making clutches. I've been wanting to make these for ages and I don't know why it's taken me so long to get around to it:

Some of these will be available at Bamakko shortly, and I'll pop some other ones up in my shop soon.

Also, I've been prototyping another clutch design idea, with the help of these guys. Here's an initial prototype just made with MDF:

So exciting to see one of my designs cut out of something!! I've adjusted the design slightly and we need to source some nice plywood/vaneer, and then they'll be up for sale too - yay :)

I'd love to find a neat way to add an optional purse chain to the clutch... something that can be tucked away or removed if not needed. I like my bags to be hands free :)

Ooohhhhhh ... um, wow, very cool! I like the idea for adding the wood to them as well - makes each clutch all the more unique to what I see in stores now.

The clutch purse is cute but I also like to go hands free especially while shopping to touch and admire potential purchases and more importantly at an exhibition or party- so you can hold your glass of wine in one hand and nibblies in the other!

I really like that cutout handle! So unique and it goes nicely with your fabrics. Very cool.

For the straps you can attach a metal hook/clasp to one side of the bag (or both sides), and on the end of the strap have a metal ring. If they want to remove the strap, they can still use the clasp for other things, like attach their keyring to it for easy finding.

Adding the cutout is genius! It echoes and emphasizes the silhouettes in your prints beautifully.

That cutout handle is niiiice!

Are the clutches stiffened with timtex or something? I hate a floppy clutch :/

The clutch with the wood on it is very cool- I also like the idea of them being completly framed with the plywood (OTT I know!)

Love the MDF! Could you also make the wood as handles to attach a strap to? Like make a half thickness of wood and attach handles? Or maybe an extra loop out of the side so it's a wristlet.

I also prefer hands-free bags but I think I could deal with a bag like this... in fact it would be hard to get my dirty little fingers off that beautiful cut-out handle. :)
