new fabric print - yay!!

I have been waiting for this for what feels like SO long. Finally my new 4 colour print has come back from the printers, and I am so happy with how it turned out. Here's a little preview!

One of my favourite things about this print is that all 4 colours are printed off the one screen. Tricky and complicated yet fun to set up! It helps keep the production cost down and makes multiple colour prints actually affordable.

There's only one problem though. I have NO idea what to call the print, and what to call the colourway! I've already done a print called "raindrops" so I can't use that. I was thinking something like 'rain', 'water', or just 'drops'. Or 'winter rain' which describes the colour at the same time... but maybe thats too depressing.

Anyway, I'm totally open to suggestions at this point. If you manage to suggest a name or colourway that I end up using for this print - I'll send you a free piece of the fabric :)

Hopefully something will be decided before Monday 28th, 9am Melbourne time, which is when I'm putting this up in the shop :)

Frosted drops? I always love the winter mornings when you get up and the garden is full of those things.. but of course Im all cuddled up in front of the fire inside ha!

Fantastic....I really like the colors that you used.

Anonymous said...

You know, I'm really getting the feel of new shoots or blades of grass from this one (maybe because of that yummy green in there). But I like the frosted drops suggestion! (It's gorgeous btw, and the colours are lovely)

I love your fabric - you are a textile designer master!

My idea is 'Autumnal Rain' - colourway is autumn...perhaps you could have a winter, spring and summer rain then?? LOL...

Very pretty Lara!!
At first i thought Frosty Drops, then i read the comments and realised that Frosted Drops had already been suggested - great minds..... :)
How about Warm Winter Raindrops? That yellow warms up the winter feel for me.

Cass said...

Ha I was going to say Autumn Rain too. I think the colours are more autumny than wintery

Four colours on one screen? Wowies, that is very exciting. I would love to see the process although my head might explode.

As for the name of the colourway I suggest Autumn Quatre. I'm putting the frenchie in because it looks very euro/french to me.

Ooooh, LOVE this one Lara!!

I was thinking more along the lines of teardrops rather than rain drops - something like "Winter/Wintry Teardrops" or "Morning Teardrops" - too dramatic or depressing??

Also, I think Meshell mentioned blades of grass - I also initially thought they were little trees in a forest, so maybe "Wintry Forest".

Not sure that helps ;-)

I am thinking dew drops would work well! What's fresher than a morning dew?

Karen said...

Can I go with "Dropsicles"?

Hi, long time reader, first time commenter.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking Winter Drops which reminds me of a name for a lolly. And then I read Stephanie's comment and I thought of Winter Dew.

Michelle Engel Bencsko said...

Drizzle- reminds me of a cold light rain- great color choices.
I'm intrigued by the printing process- I hope you blog about it. I'm imagining some sort of mask that covers the bits you don't want printed.

kristy said...

no not rain - looks like pine needles or pine trees to me. love the winter reference - so maybe "winter pine" or just "pine needles".

i'm hopeless at this stuff! i love your designs though and this one has to be one of my favs!

appelsj said...

Wonderful new fabric!

I see trees, so maybe Tundra, or Borealis?

Michelle said...

I thought they looked like a forest of little fir trees. Great print!

"droplets"...?

I love this design - it's absolutely brilliant, colours are awesome too.

And I'm intrigued by 4 colours on one screen? Very clever!

kangaroo mama said...

how about lollidrops? :)
You have inspirational work as always!

Janet Noe Rhoads said...

How about Winter Melt? The stretched out drops and the colors remind me of the slow merge of winter into spring...hence "melt".

I absolutely love this! :)

caitlin said...

Fabulous colours! That must have been tricky - I'm trying to work out how you did it... hmm... too much for my little brain today!

anyway how about something splashy... splash out...?

Anonymous said...

I think the name could be "Swim".

There is a lot of movement in the way the drops are placed.

They do remind me of tree's when the fabric is placed the other way up though.

CurlyPops said...

How about 'Retro Raindrops'?

Marita said...

Hi, as always beautiful colours and design. How about Plouf! its french for splash!

mizu designs said...

how about 'winter tears'? i'm rather fond of meloncholy names like that.

threadsforevie said...

how about autumn drops? I love the print. How on earth did you manage to do that with only one screen? You are a talented lass.

Anonymous said...

I don't have any ideas for a name... but I love it. This is my favourite out of all your fabrics.

jessica said...

dripsicles.
that was the first word that popped into my head.

Anonymous said...

Hi Lara,
How about 'Falling Petals' or 'Floating Petals'?

muralimanohar said...

I thought they were a forest of fir trees, too, so my suggestion was going to be Winter Forest, too. Very pretty.

Jade said...

Beautiful fabric, as always! I'm thinking along the lines of the end of summer....so "summer's tears" or "summer teardrops"?

leslie said...

oh my god, love, love, love this one. i think it should be called "perfect for my baby's nursery" ;)

Di said...

How about something like Little April Showers. `I don't know how you are going to chose there are so many great ideas here! It really is a beautiful fabric! Well done!

Anonymous said...

I keep thinking of something along the lines of acid drops, acidic spears, or rain spears....

Anonymous said...

How about "forest drops"? The colors are lovely and somehow they remind me of forest in the same time...

vantiani said...

Blue Bliss.

Suzy said...

My first thought for the print was driplets... and for the colourway golden gray. But that doesn't really reflect the jadey shades. Will have to keep thinking.

It's gorgeous, anyway.

teanotea said...

The fabric is beautiful, but I'm not reading "rain" from it for some reason. The shapes remind me of pine trees and the bluer colors remind me of colors found on juniper trees. Juniper Mist might make a good name.

lupinbunny said...

Thunderstorm (I think it's the grey) or Arctic Drops?

Anonymous said...

cascade in seashore colourway

monda-loves said...

I'm imagining a meteor shower (because I've never actually seen one)

so maybe 'meteor'

Also 'dew drops' but someone might have already said that.

It's lovely btw

Great fabric!
It looks like a Japanese print, so therefore my name suggestion will be the Japanese word for rain.
Fabric name: Ame
colourway: mist

Anonymous said...

First I saw 'Droplets' and 'Icicles' then a forest of cypress trees, so 'Winter Cypress'. Lovely!

Anonymous said...

reminds me of the colours of seaweed and sandstone and the ocean in winter when the light is low. I'll go for winterbeach

Anonymous said...

It looks like cute, little tadpoles to me.

Angela said...

So pretty! I would just keep it simple: "Droplets."

Tina in Boston said...

Hi Lara! Nice! They kind of remind me of trees. The colors are kind of winter-like. You could call it March Forest or something like that. If you make another colorway, you could call it April Forest, October Forest, etc., depending upon the colors.

Kitty said...

"autumn rain"
I thought this as soon as I saw it and then saw it has already been suggested... spooky.
looks absolutely fabulous though, I will definately buy some, dan you take direct deposit?

Caylie said...

stalactites !

Anonymous said...

This is really cute! The colours remind me of goody gumdrop icecream, so perhaps "gumdrops" might be fitting...?

downstairs Designs said...

if you are going with rain images, I like "Droplets" and for the color way Blue Mist.

But to me, they look like the flames from little birthday candles, so how about "Moonlight Flickers"?

Anonymous said...

It's fabulous. We're in the middle of crazy 'april showers' here in the UK. How about Spring Shower?

Anonymous said...

Oh boy, I wish I had posted my comment before reading all of the suggestions as there are so many great ones. Anyway, here's my offering - I see spring/summer more than any other season in this colorway. So, an early spring icestorm came to mind plus a hail storm in summer. Based on that, my suggestion is "warm weather ice crystals".

Tricia said...

I suggest "thaw" because it looks like the first springy drops off the eaves.

tea said...

Not to get all 80s hair metal band, but what about "November Rain"?

Though I like cicada studio's idea of "drizzle" and di's "april showers."

Emily Bucknell said...

This is beautiful fabric, the colours are perfect.

My suggestion for the name:

Ocean Tears

For palette:
-Storm

i was wondering when this print would make a reappearance in fabric form. it's lovely. the colours remind me of vintage textiles, so i don't know if 'vintage' could make its way into the title...

Adrienne said...

Trickling Rain Dew ...

Happy Day!

Amy Nieto said...

Hmmm, how about "AWESOME"? That's the only word I can think of.

:P

Anonymous said...

The print reminds me of 50s furniture - so I was thinking Mod drops, or Modern drops, or Modern rain, or something like that - but they sound a bit corny. Well, it's beautiful fabric no matter what you end up naming it!

Unknown said...

I really love your new design. Maybe you could call it Pitter Patter?

I like the earlier suggestions of thaw and drizzle too.

Alexandra said...

So many awesome suggestions, how ever will you choose?! It reminds me of looking out a window on a rainy day and the drops picking up colors from outside. Maybe something like Pane Drops (sounds like rain drops, but a window pane for the glass). And here's a super corny name: Rain on my Pane. How depressing!

Hi Lara,

How about WATERFALL or WINTER WATERFALL?

That's my two cents on your lovely fabric.

how about 'pioggia' which means rain in italian ;)

I really like the suggestion put forward by Diana... the Japanese word for rain. Beautiful!

I like 'sunshowers'. Or else 'spray'.

Gorgeous print!

Anonymous said...

hmmm, those are some very big drops, scary as rain... or tears really,

how about
swollen tears... or
almost hailing... or
a penny short of hail

hehe have fun with all these names, and the fabric's very pretty by the way.

Kristen Doran said...

I'm hopeless at naming things so I'll vote for other people's ideas.
I like 'april showers' then you'll always remember the month it first appeared! And 'droplets'.

Kristen Doran said...

oh, and I just saw 'drip drop' cute!

'Rainy day'?
(that's what I'm saving my stash of fabric for! lol!)

or 'Deluge'?

flygirl said...

beautiful pattern , Lara! i actually quite like the link with winter or autumn raindrops.

i love it Lara! oh it is so hard to resist buying up your fabric because it is so my style.

i was going to suggest Retro Drops cause the colours look very retro 60s/70s to me. but someone else already said that. i still think it suits though!

Anonymous said...

it's very pretty !
autumn rain

How about tear drops?

Shirley said...

you can call it "qing shui". pronounced something like "ching shwei"

it's mandarin and means something along the lines of green/blue water (which captures the colors a bit), or it can mean "clear/pure water", which is the feeling i get from looking at the refreshing and crisp colors.

Suzy said...

How about Autumn Dew? I think the colours are fabulous!

Shirley said...

or, if you don't like the mandarin suggestion,

maybe "morning rush" or "dancing drops"? either way, to me, it captures the busy-ness of the drops without referring to rain or water. but i still like "qing shui", as chinese (and other east asian) art tends to dance around the natural elements. and the word qing gives it a zen-like feeling. :)

we could even go for "tiao shui". it's mandarin for dancing water.

Anonymous said...

If you're looking for a name outside of the water/drops spectrum, my suggestion for the print/pattern would be "Gravity" and my suggestion for the colourway would be "Ink" or "Admiral" or "Azure"

Anonymous said...

Here are a few - if they were already mentioned, sorry, I didn't read all the comments. :)
- Dancing Droplets
- Tearjerker
- Splashy
- Retro Splash

I adore this fabric - everything about it is perfect!

Anonymous said...

Oh, Reka already got my first suggestion, forest drops, so I'll have to say Fir Drops.

Also, I don't think it is Japanese so much as Finnish, for some reason it reminds me a little bit of some of Tove Jansson's Moomin art.

And the green reminds me of pears.
I like Drip Drip Drop too.

caz said...

as always lara, lovely colours and lovely design.

my suggestions: Falling Stars or Comet Tail

Anonymous said...

wow there are so many comments already, i'm not sure if i'm repeating something thats already been said. i think the name should be something simple, like "mist" or just "droplets" as you already said...but i don't really know. i love the colours used in the print, all my favourite shades of greeny blue :)

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh, I love this fabric!

I was thinking about dew when I first saw it. The colorway could be evening.. so evening dew, and you could do a morning dew.. or seasons-autumn dew..

Or, with all that beautiful green I started to think of Scotland and thought you could name it after a town in Scotland... such as - Cadbol Wood, Mosstowie, Coltfield..

Ooo or what about using the word "glen"? Morning glen, autumn glen, woodsy glen, mossy glen, emerald glen..

Okay. I'm stopping now. Although I'm sure my mind is going to be working on this all night. =0) Hope it helps.

lu summers said...

no idea if this has already been suggested, apologies if so...
droplets? it's gorgeous btw :)

dewdrops?

They look like little trees to me, even a little forest. I don't know if this has been suggested (too many comments!!) but what about:
-winter trees
-tree drops
-winter forest
-forest drops
-drop forest

I dunno.

What I do know, it I LOVE it.

Anonymous said...

I thought of "Forest Rain" or "Rainforest" when I opened your blog today and read your request for a print name. Maybe a colorway name could be Rainy Day or something. it is sure lovely.

Anonymous said...

I need to change my colorway suggestion...I was confusing myself.;)

Colorway name= Grey Cyan

Georgia said...

Funny that so many people think it looks like a forest, because that's what I thought at first too. It reminded me of the forests in Norway. So maybe if you want to get away from the rain theme you could go with "Norwegian Wood"? It is lovely by the way.

Heids said...

Wow - so many comments now! I know I suggested something early on but I have had another thought as well...just can't stop thinking about this gorgeous fabric!! How about Twilight Showers?

Anonymous said...

How about Stalagtite Stripes? Not sure about the colouway though, sorry.

It's beeauuuuutiful fabric by the way, wouldn't look out of place in a Marimekko catalogue methinks. :)

how about dew, dew drops, morning dew, mist, misty dew, misty morning, misty rain, misty, misty showers, dew showers???...you get the idea.
Good uck! Cant wait to see what you decide!

Anna said...

Wow, what a looong list of comments! Unfortunately I have a few name ideas which have already been listed (I'm on the dewdrop tangent), so I'm not going to bother with this one! However I am interested in how you did the single screen 4 colour setup? did you masking tape them, or sover up the colours as you went with emulsion??
