Proteaflora

Proteaflora print series (looking curiously small here, though they're actually quite big!)

So you might have picked up on the fact that I've been feeling a wee bit creatively flat over the past little while. But it recently occurred to me that I've been putting a whole bunch of restrictions upon myself as a creative individual, mostly subconciously. These subconcious thoughts were telling myself that I should be designing textiles, because that's what I do, end of story.

But then I thought back to times in the past when I felt most creatively fulfilled, and that was when I was designing/making just for the hell of it. Not for commercial purposes, not as part of my business but just for fun. So the last little while I have been exploring that, and it's been so, so satisfying. I feel like I've rediscovered a source of happiness in my life that has been sorely neglected.

On that note, this print series is something that has emerged from my creative ramblings and I'm quite happy with them! I had fun experimenting with blending a bit of vintage poster style with bold geometric shapes. Originally they were just for my wall at home but the girls have encouraged me to edition them and put them in the shop. So why not. The very lovely Jeremy from Imagescience printed these for me on a wonderful, achival Bamboo stock, and the results were stunning. Thanks Jeremy!

They're quite large though they don't necessarily look it in the photos! These ones are A1 in size but I'm also printing them in A2.

'King Protea' in A1

Hope you like! xx

they are just lovely! i have been feeling the same way lately and have just started doing a little range of cards to help get me inspired. it's funny how you can be immersed in a creative industry but feel so crippled by the pressure to create. beautiful work Lara - keep it up x

They're just gorgeous Lara. If I had a bit more cash in the bank I'd be making a purchase. Really lovely!

Hey Lara

You are (always) super welcome!!

I think Matt has been asking about doing a blog post at our end on these too. I am sure he'll be in touch soon.

They look really great framed in white...spot on.

These are beautiful! I hope you do more prints in the future. I bought a gocco print of what is now your "Rooftops" design a few years ago and it makes me happy every time I look at it.

Gorgeousness! I just planted a Leucadendron in my front yard. I'd love to buy the print for my hallway, but like Joanna above, I'm a bit broke right now. It's on my wishlist (:

Lara these are just fabulous! My favourite is the proteaflora as my mum has a tree and when they're in flower she gives me a bunch for the house every week.
Stunning! So glad you're feeling positive creatively again :)

Wow, they're beautiful! I love the way you've layered the greens in the leaves - that's just the way they look when the sun shines through them.

These are great, bold and colourful but with a hint of delicacy. Very nice indeed. I especially like the 'Proteaflora' Lovely!

Like? I love them. Am a bit peeved that so far we've had 3 frames come down from our walls... the 3M hooks are great but not when the walls soak up humidity :( Would love them, but might have to wait til we get our house.. if you still sell them... I'll start saving (for the house and the prints ;)

So wonderful on many different levels. Needless to say the prints are fab, but also rediscovering that source of happiness again, tapping into that part of yourself... it's very uplifting.

I like a lot. They're lovely and so nice to hear they're the result of creative drifting - rather than the pressure of commercial making. I write professional - most of the time it feels like content curation, and, let's face it, it is. I know how hard it is to move away from commercial and factual (in my case) to creative. I am painfully aware of those subconscious ideas that say no one wants to read this, there's no place for this, there's no audience, no publisher ... and so it goes.

I love those prints!! You've really captured the beauty of those flowers and presented them in such a great poster style.

Hi Lara, just wanted to say thanks for the honesty in your posts like in this one on creating not just for business and also the one about detours below. Your designs are lovely and your posts can be so spot on (also thinking of when you posted the "real life" shots of your flat alongside). Thanks for encouragement!
