switching off

Wow an entire afternoon of sitting on the couch with cups of tea reacquainting myself with my old friend the internet. 409 unread feeds. Cute Overload to visit. Months of The Design Files to catch up on. It's enough to make a girl feel a little small when all this amazing creativity is going on and it feels like forever since I've had a chance to design something. Or even let any ideas brew.

But then I remembered one cool (well...) thing that me and the girls have been doing - Bobbin Lace classes! I showed you one of our starter projects ages ago, and this is where we've progressed to:

making lace
Bobbin Lace making

making lace
Bobbin Lace making

Pretty. Full. On. That piece took some 23 pairs of bobbins to make. And I'm still not sure how I feel about lace making. I feel like I'm borderline insane for doing it. And my back complains a lot. But it is a very good way to STOP THINKING, which is quite necessary from time to time.

Now, time to sort out dinner...

That is super pretty and quite the project! Cudos to you for trying- and finishing!

I was thinking how nice for you to not rely on the internet - you're "self-propelled".

Sooo pretty. What's wrong with being borderline insane? :-)

Oh that's so cool. You should make a load of lace trims and make a christening dress

Ah, it's lovely! I think I know what you mean about not being sure about it; I went to a lace exhibition, came home completely obsessed with tatting, and started learning. It's slow, but addictive... but where will I find the time to do enough for it to be worth doing?

I chatted with one of the ladies from the lace making guild at the recent quilt show, so can appreciate the complexity of your gorgeous little piece of lace. Don't despair, you've done a wonderful job. It's lovely.

It's absolutely beautiful! And it's a nice way to stop thinking.

Have fun at the show in Sydney! I really wish I was making the trip, just so I can get some of that yellow birches fabric!

Very nice! Have you found all the lace makers in Melbourne yet?

Hi! I came and bought some red birch fabric from the Sydney Show yesterday - because as I was saying I just love love birches - and I'm just popping in to your blog to say how much I love it. I'm thinking of making something for Christmas with it - going to mull over exactly what for a while.

That is beautiful lace btw - reminds me of some pieces of lace I have that my grandmother made from way back when they taught such arts at school.

It´s funny... when I decided to make some lace (in Spain we call it "encaje de bolillos") my family told me I was insane. I had the same feeling of concentration and stop thinking... but my back didn't like that job either!!! You are great!!! I specially love your birchs!!! Maria (from your antipodes)
