Hello 2009

It has been a much needed break. Granted, I've been sick with a cold for most of it, but OMG it's been so good to just stop! Spend time with my family. Clean out the apartment and take things to the tip (I hate how much useless crap we tend to accumulate in life). Make chocolates. Cook. Exercise. Generally be more happy and relaxed.

Why can't we maintain that sort of balance in every day life?

I'm so not ready to go back. The latter half of last year was totally overwhelming and all consuming, and I know that this coming year is going to be pretty similar whilst Ink & Spindle is still in its early days. But I know that I'm fortunate to be able to do something that I love every day.

Now for a bit of eye candy, these gorgeous hand bound books by Nicole of Freshly Blended, covered in my textiles:

Handbound books

Nicole sent me a little stack and I'll pop some in the shop soon :)

Hope you had a great break and are looking forward to what 2009 holds :)

I feel pretty much the same ...not quite ready for the reality of the working year to start again.

I hope it's a wonderful year for Ink & Spindle!

I am so excited about your collaboration with Freshly Blended Press! I just bought a couple of their matchstick notepads (which are so addicting to use!) and love their stuff.

Hi Lara. I live in a tiny island called Guernsey in the English Channel and I was so pleased to stumble upon your website and blog. Your designs are beautiful and very inspiring. I hope you have every success in 2009.

Best wishes from the northern hemisphere!

Your words are ringing loudly in my ears as I sit here on my first day back at work. I'm so not ready.

Hope 2009 is a great year for Ink and Spindle.

it's always a struggle to get a little balance in life isn't it?
And you can always see the bigger picture more clearly when you've had a little break!
Let's hope we can all keep our resolutions this year! ;)
Good luck in 09! x

All the best with finding that balance in 2009. I found 2008 similarly overwhelming, and it's been such a relief to not wake up with a list of things to do running through my head in the holidays. But it's also so cool to do the things we love - we really are the lucky ones!

Happy New Year!

I agree with you 100% - I think in the crafty world we get so fired up with ideas and enthusiasm that it's hard to realise that if we don't take a break we are hurting ourselves doing everything all the time.

I think this year I'm going to start designating one evening a week to do nothing at all, not go out, not read, just nothing, perhaps listen to the radio and nap!

Hope you find a little more time for yourself this year too.

I discovered your wonderful blog late last year (that sounds so far in the past now!) and find it helps give me the drive to get back into my own work. I'm trying to find a job even slightly related to crafts and sometimes it gets a bit disheartening, seeing other people living the dream is great! Best wishes for 2009 and beyond.

It is inspiring to watch your business grow, but nothing is better than happiness, so wishing you lots of this for 2009!

It's so cathartic cleaning out all your old stuff isn't it? - when I left Australia I think I got rid of two trailer loads. I loved it! Know what you mean about not quite being ready for the new year - I feel like I need some sort of plan... hmm. Thanks for all your supportive comments over the past year - it really is motivating to have another voice to my projects and thoughts. Thanks again and have a great 2009! Looking forward to more Ink and spindle progress :)

Hope you are feeling better now - This xmas I think everyone I know and us just took time to relax and no rushing around for a change which was just wonderful - I need to do that more often I think! The covered books look fantastic! Happy 2009!

I don't remember how I first stumbled across your blog, (searching for handprinted fabrics perhaps?) but I am SO glad I did! I live in Seattle but have been following your blog for a few months now (sort of feeling like a stalker;); I just love your work and you have been inspirational to me while I have been working on setting up my own blog and getting my teeny tiny business started :) I've added a link to your blog from my new one, hope that's okay! Thank you and best wishes for continued success in 2009!
