Since then, I've been totally absorbed in the Twilight series of books. Every. Single. Spare. Moment I have been reading them. Yes it's all teen-angsty and other worldly but OMG that woman can write. You get SO absorbed in the story and characters. The movie was done equally well, however I would highly recommend NOT SEEING THE MOVIE BEFORE READING THE BOOK. I can imagine the movie would be ridiculously corny without all the subtle details of the written version.
Anyway, I guess I'm writing this mainly because I just finished reading the series and am waiting for that to sink in. You should have seen the look of anguish that appeared on my face from time to time when I considered how I would feel once the books were all over. But I couldn't stop myself from reading them! It was like torture. But a good kind of course. Dramatic, I know.
Well, enough raving. We've passed the books onto Bee and now she's hooked too. Maybe you should read them if you haven't already, and let me know what you think ;)

Hello! I don't think I've commented here before but I do love your textiles as well as watching the process' relating to them :)
Now, on to Twilight. My younger sister was reading this series and I picked it up for fun. I agree with all you say, they are ridiculously fun and addicting (and good!), I couldn't talk about anything else while I was reading them :)
And oh, Edward!
I, too, have become ridiculously hooked on these books. I've read the first three and am waiting until I have more time to buy the fourth -- otherwise, nothing will get done until I finish it.
Oh, and I'm seeing the movie tonight. Can't wait!
I've also become addicted to The Twilight series. It was fun and easy to sink into. If you listen to Podcasts, Imprint is fun to listen to (for those who want more Twilight).
I read the first two books. Loved Twilight and ran out and bought New Moon. I wasn't thrilled with New Moon so I haven't read the others. Do they get better? Maybe I should get the 3rd book :)
Those things are addictive! I read the first three in about a week. Now I'm taking a little break so I can get on with my life for a little while.
oh! the girls at work forced me to read the first one too... i was reluctant. and then i was hooked and came into the office with dark moons under my eyes for a week until i was finished with them all!
(so into them i reverse-engineered the mittens kristen stewart wears in the movie. yeah.)
unfortunately i have enough time on my hands where i have finished and begun reading them again!.. much more slowly this time. as fast as i went the first go around i missed one or two things. =)
I giggled when I read this post...as a High School Librarian, I have had this reaction from girls AND boys all year. They think that Edward is a dreamboat, I have had girls call him "their husband". Personally, I'd prefer my husband to be a bit less of a creepy stalker but whatever your thing is! I'm glad you liked them. I didn't really like them, but still found them difficult to put down! Apparently, Meyers is eventually bringing out a book from Edward's perspective, so that will give you something to sink your teeth into (ha ha bad pun!)
I'm definitely going to read these this year! Max just read the first three in only 10 days - so they MUST be good (and addictive as you say!) I thought the same thing that you did - Not into vampires - but so many people have said these books are great - I need to gave a go too!
i am obsessed - but have seen the movie first and so far the first book is FAR better than the movie - you get to know the characters so much more :-). Although it is all consuming and i have decided to take a break from it all as i may be going crazy!.
I hate it when you finish a book or a series and there is no more - i get really sad and miss the characters!

I too am a Twilight fan - I read all four books in a week last year and was very sad to have them finished...then I discovered Meyers has put an incomplete unedited (but still worth reading) version from Edward's perspective on her website.
I brought them for my 13 year old niece for her birthday after she said it was a 6 month wait for them at the local library. After she finished Twilight I asked to borrow it, just to see what all the fuss was about and have been hooked since. I've so far read the first 3 books. I've been holding out on breaking dawn, so I have some holiday reading when I go up the coast next week. So far I think Eclipse is my favourite. I agree that it's best to read the book before seeing the movie.
I loved the Twilight series too (30-something here, also not a tweenie/teen). But oh heck, the movie was dreadful. I haven't stopped apologizing to my husband for dragging him along to it with me :) After I saw the movie, I had to come home and wipe it from my memory by re-reading the first two books (my mum has borrowed the 3rd and 4th, or I'd have re-read them as well).
there's nothing better than a book (or even better, a series) that you get so hooked on that your life starts to revolve around it! I may have to get my hands on a copy!
I'm a 22 year old college graduate obsessed with Twilight and the movie and awaiting the sequel. :)

Hi, ny name is Jenaveve, and I'm addicted to Twilight.
I ploughed through them with reckless abandon last year and saw the movie a few weeks ago... and the obsession has not abated! It's ridiculous how addictive the world of Forks and her fabulous characters are. 'New Moon' is starting (filming) in March...yay!
I read all of them, one after the other - doing everything else with one hand until I had finished them all!
Then I felt a bit dirty afterwards, like I'd spent the whole week sitting on the couch, watching Oprah and Entertainment Tonight!
I am going to see the movie though......
While I was reading the books I was also watching 'True Blood' which is directed by Alan Ball who did 6 Feet Under - it's about vampires too, and has some similar things in it, but it's much darker and a bit better!
The series is based on the 'Sookie Stackhouse' books, which you can find in Borders if you're interested - though I haven't read them yet, I'm enjoying the show too much!
Ha - anyway enough rambling about vampire fiction... I'll get started on Buffy next!

I have been reading the Sookie Stackhouse books for the past two months and I love, love, love them. I would venture to say they are better than Twilight -- they are as engaging without totally having to succumb to the stories non-stop-only-to-come-up-for-air. in other words, the books are wonderful but allow one to maintain a life at the same time. Do give them a try!
Haha, I confess too. Seconding Heids's recommendation of Midnight Sun from SMeyer's website. I thought it was a better read than Twilight and I hope she finishes it.

a few close friends have read this series and saw the film as well. they tried to coax me into getting into the series too. but, alas, i just could not get myself to become interested in a series, much less about vampires. but don't get me wrong, i've a fondness for vampires at one point in my life. however, i suppose, as i am still trying to finish the last harry potter book (yes, i've delayed it this long!), i really don't want to get myself hooked into another series (however short) and have to deal with the anguish as it comes to an end. as long as there will be access to these books, i will have time to get into them. and that's that. haha. i'm glad you've found another good read.

Read them all in five days - could not stop . Even read the part version written from Edwards point of view, but I refuse to see the movie.

And Rob Pattinson as Edward was a dreamy choice - I've adored him from way back...
I was recommended these ages ago (after I'd read through all the Harry Potter's for the 100th time and exclaimed 'I need something new!') but never got around to reading them (and are currently re-reading HP again..) But today two of my friends were raving about them, again, so I said 'fine, lend them to me!'. I'll start reading them shortly. I have very high expectations now though...
Love your work Lara, now with Twilight, I just found they had too much of a religious overtone in it, that I quickly got sick of, but still read anyway.
Similar reaction to Harry Potter, while has no such overtone, I loved the world that was created more then the plot of characters themselves.
Like other commenters I suggest the Sookie Stackhouse books too they're great.
Fun Twilight fact though, the guy that plays Edward, Robert Pattinson, also sung two of the songs in the movie. One was called "I'll be Your King" and the other "Never Think". You should be able to Youtube it, worth listening to just to hear what he sounds like.

Welcome to the world of Twilight. I read it before it became such a big thing and I am still obsessed with the books. :*) I read all 4 books in the span of 2 weeks and nothing got done in my house!! I brought my books everywhere. Waiting in line at the bank, the bus stop, reading in the train etc etc
I read them all over the Christmas break and then read twilight again plus all the out takes & midnight sun on the website. I don't think I've felt such sorrow over finishing a series. It is so weird! I saw the movie but thought it was pretty lame. Not the acting but the way they had changed the story line. Totally understandable to leave things out but to add things in that weren't in the book. Not OK! Can anyone really imagine Edward saying 'hang on Squirrel Monkey???
Well - I don't think I can manage the twilight books, but I did get hooked on Vampires via True Blood. YUM!
I promptly went out and bought all 8 Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, double YUM. (you can buy the first 7 as a set on Amazon for CHEAP) and am madly, madly hooked. The new book comes out in May (that will make it 9 total).
I just finished Twilight last week for book club and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it given the age group it's written for. The success of the book is definitely in how well written it is. I'll have to add the rest of the series to my reading pile this year.
I'm off to see the movie in a couple of weeks.

so very funny. I just finished the series this weekend, and started to laugh when I read your post! It's probably good that I finished them and can now move on with my life! There were a few themes that I took issue with, but seemed quite pleased to just ignore those things and gobble the books up anyways... totally addictive.

I was just browsing by your site when I saw this post and I have to concur. I've been a Twilight junkie for the last three weeks. My husband misses me. I'm slowly coming back to reality. But WOW. What fun that trip was.
These books were recommended by my 13 year old grand-daughter who is sooooo in love with Edward. My three daughters have read and enjoyed them as have I. The movie was great also.
my near 14yr old daughter got me and my mother, and sisters (etc)- you get the picture- onto this series back in July last year (she having seen the first book a few year ago, but waited until she was older to read) - she has now read all books 5 times and is smitten with Edward's character
so know what you mean. crestfallen now. i wish she'd hurry up and finish midnight sun!
