Heatwave

I'm sure everyone has blogged about this already, but us Victorians are currently experiencing the hottest 3 day period on record. The temperature this week has been hovering around 43/44 degrees (that's around 111 F for you US folk), making next weeks run of 35 degree days seem like a cool breeze.

Our living room currently resembles a cosy bedsitter apartment with our queen bed mattress occupying the space beneath the air-con (much as I hate to use it). At the studio we've given up trying to work (no chance at all printing in this heat) and I'm feeling lucky I can do admin stuff on my laptop at home.

I feel bad for neglecting my blog of late. I feel like I can't post without pictures, and I haven't had the head space to take any.

However I can take the opportunity to blog about Pip's lovely book (pre-order here), which I'm excited to be a part of:

The Blurb: From Melbourne’s best loved crafty store comes Meet Me at Mike’s, a cornucopia of crafty fun and inspiration. Queen of Crafters Pip Lincolne has gathered 25 of the best projects from the country’s most creative cleverbods -everything from baby yoga pants and clutch purses to hankies and softies. You can sew, knit, crochet, collage and screenprint yourself into a frenzy! Each cute and quirky project comes with easy-to-follow instructions and full-size fold out patterns. With such a fabulous range of ideas, you’ll find something to make for all your favourite pals. If you’re looking for fun and creative things to brighten up everyone’s day, have a peek inside and get crafty!

Okay I'm off to check the status of the ice tea cooling in my freezer...

mmmh yes! Glad to hear that we are not the only ones with our queen mattress in the living room.

Thanks for the tip on the book. Looks interesting.

I have heard from my aunt in Melbourne about the heat. My heart goes out to you all there. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be so hot! Hope it cools down soon.

Ok, now please send the sun to the UK where we are having the coldest winter for about 15 years!

Definitely not envious of the heat down your day, Sydney has had a few scorching hot days of late, but at least we've had a bit of solace in the occasional storm to cool things down!

Not exactly jealous of your heat, but if my cold and your heat got together, we would have the perfect day!

Oh my - that sounds terrible. I will take an ice storm and freezing temps any day over 112 degrees.

Stay cool! Look at photos of icicles!

A few years back we had a hundred consecutive days over 100 degrees in Texas. Roads melted, people died. It's almost that hot every summer there, and the only way people can live there is air-conditioning! I feel your pain. I'll be moving back there (by choice) just in time for this year's sauna. My fav summer thing is iced mint and honey green tea for breakfast!

Hi Lara,

First of all, happy 2009!

It's so cold here in Germany, it is hard to imagine that it is so hot in a different part of the world..

I wanted to let you know that I have now compiled all the interviews from my "artists who blog" series and given them their own site www.artistswhoblog.blogspot.com
So please do drop by and have a look - your interview is of course included.

And - Lara - I have not forgotten about the fabric samples you sent me. New collages using your fabrics are at the top of my to-do list for 2009. So thanks for your patience!

All the best to you and take care,

Stephanie

I feel your pain. I'm from Texas so from May-October it's hot as Hades (no joke). Stay cool as possible.

And thanks for the book suggestion.
